Andaz Amsterdam by Hyatt HotelS
Set in the historic center of Amsterdam within the ring of canals, the five-star lifestyle hotel offers guests a chance to feel like local and to be a part of daily life in the city’s lively Jordaan district.
Marcel Wanders' comprehensive design for the Andaz Amsterdam Prinsengracht, a building that used to be the public library of Amsterdam, cherishes Dutch heritage in a multitude of ways. Sensibilities from the Golden Age and the Discovery Age, as well as Delftware, historical maps, navigation instruments and Amsterdam's creative and knowledge economy, all inform its design. Each space of the 122-room hotel is full of visual delights with vibrant patterns, textures, and colours making the hotel feel like a culturally rich place to spend time.
Every guest room has a freestanding signature concrete vanity unit by IVANKA. The surface of the top of each unique piece is rounded up with sensual curves to be perfectly continued by the mirror and The Delft Blue washbasins hand painted by Marcel Wanders himself. The three dimensional typographical feature of AMSTERDAM ‘XXX’, the symbol for the city since 1505, has been placed on the edges.
Traditional gestures are giving the feeling of returning to your apartment at the end of the day. The furniture and textiles, carpets and wallpapers are custom designed, and every piece tells a story. They are all unique. In Marcel's own words, "As a designer, I always try to design things with personality and character. The Andaz is my gift to Amsterdam!"
